A festival showcasing the culture of African countries will be held at Seoul’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The Seoul Africa Festival will introduce the “diverse charms of African nations unknown to most Koreans,” according to the festival’s Facebook page.
Nearly 50 organizations related to Africa will run booths at the festival. Eight African countries’ embassies, including Morocco and Angola, will also set up booths.
The festival will have five zones. The “Community,” “Friends” and “Knowledge” zones will offer visitors opportunities to meet Africans and learn about their culture. In the “Experience” zone, people can try traditional outfits, instruments and food from the continent. Visitors can buy African items at the “Market” zone.
Korean show business celebrities Sam Okyere from Ghana and Bronwyn Mullen from South Africa will attend the opening ceremony as special guests. Dancing and singing, fashion show and a DJ performance will follow.
The festival was launched in Seoul last year in Cheonggye Square.
“I hope this year’s festival becomes a chance for visitors to learn more about African culture and be more open-minded toward the continent,” festival chief manager Heo Sung-yong told The Korea Times.
